About Morton Ranch Junior High

Morton Ranch Junior High is named in honor of the Morton Family Ranch, established in 1896, when Elbert M. Morton and his wife Margaret moved with their family from Missouri to Katy.  Since then, three generations of Morton's have attended Katy ISD schools.

Ask any student at Morton Ranch Junior High what makes his or her school different from all the others in Katy ISD, and you're likely to get the same answer from just about everyone: The Maverick Way. The Maverick Way isn't just a saying or a catchy phrase, but a way of life at Morton Ranch. It is a way of doing things that focuses on the whole student -- the social as well as the academic. Morton Ranch Jr. High is characterized by an atmosphere where the teachers and staff believe in the students, and most importantly, the students believe in themselves. Morton Ranch Junior High's goals focus on maintaining a safe, civil and productive learning environment.

The school itself is built using a floor plan that was designed using parent, staff and community input.  It features a sixth grade area upstairs, allowing a "school within a school" for younger students.  Science classrooms are located between classroom pods, allowing the advantages of common storage for supplies and equipment, but providing easy access to other core-area classrooms. The commons area, library and main lobby have a view of an outdoor courtyard.
